What data this site collects, the cookies set by Google AdSense and its partners, your rights under GDPR and the CCPA, and how to opt out.

Summary

This site is a set of static pages. It has no login, no comment system, no newsletter and no contact form, so it does not ask you for any personal information and cannot store any that you do not send by email. The only data involved is what the web server records in order to serve a page, and what third-party advertising and analytics systems set in your browser.

Server logs

Like every web server, ours records each request. A log line contains the IP address the request came from, the date and time, the page requested, the referring page if there was one, and the browser’s user-agent string. These logs are used to keep the site running and to see which pages are being read, and they are rotated and deleted on a rolling basis rather than kept indefinitely.

We do not combine log data with any other information, and we do not use it to build a profile of an individual reader.

Advertising: Google AdSense and the DoubleClick cookie

This site is supported by advertising served through Google AdSense. Google and its partner networks use cookies — including the DoubleClick DART cookie — to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and to other sites on the internet. These cookies do not identify you by name, but they do allow ads to be selected based on browsing behaviour.

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.

You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings at adssettings.google.com. You can also opt out of personalised advertising from many other third-party vendors at aboutads.info/choices, or in the EU at youronlinechoices.eu. Opting out does not remove advertising; it makes the advertising you see less relevant.

Analytics

If analytics is enabled for this site, it is Google Analytics 4 configured with IP anonymisation, and it is used only to count page views and to see which entries are read. It is not used to build advertising audiences, and the measurement ID belongs to this domain alone — no identifier is shared with any other site.

At the time of the last update below, no analytics tag is installed on this site. If one is added, the date at the foot of this page will change.

Your rights under the GDPR

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you have the right to be informed about processing, to request access to the personal data held about you, to have it rectified or erased, to restrict or object to processing, and to data portability. Where processing is based on consent — the advertising cookies — you may withdraw that consent at any time, and withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before it.

The lawful bases relied on are consent (advertising cookies), legitimate interests (keeping the site available, protecting it from abuse and understanding which pages are read), and legal obligation (retaining records where the law requires it).

Because this site does not run a login, the only personal data we could hold about you is an email you chose to send and the server log line created by your visit. Requests concerning those can be made to the address below.

Your rights in California

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what categories of personal information are collected and for what purpose, to request deletion of personal information, to correct inaccurate personal information, to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, and not to be discriminated against for exercising any of those rights.

Selling personal information is not something this site does. Advertising cookies may nonetheless constitute “sharing” for cross-context behavioural advertising under the CPRA, so a “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” signal is honoured: the consent notice above is the mechanism, and Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signals are respected as a request to opt out.

Children

This site is written for adults working in a pottery workshop and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13, and if we learn that we have, it will be deleted.

International transfers, retention and security

Advertising and analytics providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where that happens it is done under the provider’s own transfer mechanism, such as the standard contractual clauses.

Server logs are retained for a short rolling window and then deleted. Emails you send are kept only as long as needed to answer them and to keep a record of the answer.

Changes to this policy

When this policy changes, the “last updated” date below changes with it. Material changes are described on this page rather than being applied silently.
